BOTOX (botulinum toxin A) is one of the safest and most popular cosmetic medical procedures in the world. It has been FDA approved for more than 30 years. After millions of injections, the predictable results and safety in treating facial wrinkles have won it legions of devotees.

BOTOX eliminates facial wrinkles by freezing the action of muscles that create wrinkles. In the small doses used in cosmetic treatment, wrinkles are safely minimzed for an average of 3 months. The most popular and beneficial areas of injection are in the upper face.

At CLS, we offer Botox for wrinkle treatment or prevention for the following areas:

BOTOX starts to take effect after 3 or so days and results last an average of 3 months. That means that some individuals will have experience longer effects and some will have shorter. Not all wrinkles can be completely smoothed away with BOTOX. Facial lines that are deeply set in take a long time to smooth away or may never go away completely in aged or sagging skin. Additional procedures, such as laser or injectable fillers may be necessary for optimal results. At CLS, we will help you decide on the best combination of treatments suited to your specific needs.

Dysport®

Dysport is a botulinum toxin very similar to Botox. It has been in use in Europe for years and recently received FDA approval for the treatment of facial wrinkles in the US. It has a similar mechanism of action to Botox but a slightly faster onset and a somewhat wider field of effect from the site of injection. Recommended sites of injection for Dysport are not substantially different from Botox. Since both Botox and Dysport are priced by the unit, 3 units of Dysport equal one of Botox. Thus the price of Dysport is likewise one-third of Botox.

Why use Dysport?

Since these two botulinum toxins are similar but not exactly the same, differences in effect within individual patients are possible. In the end, individuals may have a preference for one brand over the other. At Celebrity Laser Spa, we seek to provide a range of choices for our patients.

Xeomin®

Xeomin is another botulinum toxin made by Merz Aesthetics, the same company that makes Radiesse. Xeomin works just like the other botulinum toxins, such as Dysport and Botox, and is FDA-approved for cosmetic wrinkle treatment. Celebrity Laser Spa is proud to be one of the first doctor's offices to provide Xeomin in Los Angeles. During this introductory period, we are able to provide rebates and special promotions from Merz Aesthetics to our patients.

BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating

Did you know that excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) has a very effective treatment in the form of BOTOX? Some individuals are so burdened by this problem, that social gatherings and business meetings are embarassing or uncomfortable. With BOTOX, you can get months of decreased or normalized sweat production in treated areas. At CLS, we provide BOTOX for excessive sweating for underams, hands, and feet.

As with cosmetic BOTOX, treatment starts to take effect at 3 days and is maximal at a week. Typically, 100 units are used to cover both underarms. When purchasing 100 units for this purpose, special pricing of $7.50 per unit applies.

Botulinum Toxin F.A.Q.’s

1. How long does BOTOX® or Dysport® last?

The effects of BOTOX or Dysport last an average of 3 months. That means that it will last less than 3 months for some and more than 3 months for others.

2. How do I know if I’m getting “full-strength” BOTOX?

At CLS, we provide BOTOX by the unit rather than by the "area." This way you know exactly how much you're getting and whether it's a good value. If we were treating "by the area" then it would not be clear how many units we were using. Also, how much water BOTOX is reconstituted in is irrelevant. As long as you are receiving a specified number of units, that is all that is important.

3. I heard that BOTOX® is a poison. Is it safe to use in humans?

In the relatively tiny doses of BOTOX use for cosmetic injections, it is very safe. No deaths or systemic problems have ever occurred from authentic BOTOX Cosmetic.

4. How does BOTOX or Dysport make my wrinkles go away?

BOTOX paralyzes muscles of facial expression when it is injected into those muscles. Once if freezes muscles such as those that cause frowning or wrinkling the forehead, the wrinkles associated with those movements starts to disappear.

5. How much BOTOX do I need?

How much BOTOX is recommended varies greatly from person to person. The size and strength of the muscle being injected is important. Men also usually need more than women for the same area. Once you have repeat visits to the same provider, dose adjustment can yield the optimal amount necessary to give the desired results. If you have had injections of BOTOX previously with another provider, finding out how many units were used previously may be helpful in guiding your treatment.

6. Is there any downtime after BOTOX?

There is minor swelling or bruising after inejction that typically goes away after 20 minutes. Occasionally bruising can occur, so please tell us if you are taking blood thinners. Bruising can usually be covered with make-up.

7. Who does my injection?

Once of our Physician Assistants or Dr. Kaplan will perform your treatment.
