Fractional laser resurfacing is the most advanced way to improve aging, wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, and other skin texture problems. At Celebrity Laser Spa, there are two kinds of fractional laser treatments that are offered, Fraxel and Smartxide DOT. Fraxel Re:store uses erbium laser and has less downtime, and DOT uses CO2 laser for more powerful resurfacing.

Fraxel FAQ
Which laser treatment is best for me, Fraxel or DOT?
Each treatment has its advantages. DOT fractional CO2 is usually complete in 1 or 2 treatments. There is crusting for a couple of days with a couple of weeks of increased redness as the skin heals. With Fraxel Re:store, the treatment is more gentle, with redness the day of treatment and slightly grainy texture for a few days afterwards. Results are quicker and more robust with DOT.
Is Fraxel Re:store safe for darker skin types?
Since the laser treatment is fractionated, healing is quick and the risk of scarring minimized. Since the laser wavelength mainly targets water, it is essentially "colorblind." Therefore it can be used in any skin type, including African American and Hispanic.
How effective is Fraxel?
Each Fraxel session causes a wound healing response and improvements in skin color, texture and vitality. The effects of each session are additive, however, since wound healing is a long process lasting 6-12 months and involving deep layers of the skin, the final results are not apparent until that long after the last treatment.
How often are Fraxel treatments given?
Treatments are given at least a few weeks apart, to give the skin surface time to heal.
Who performs the treatments?
One of our physician assistants will perform your treatment.
Are Fraxel and DOT painful?
At CLS, we take several steps to minimize discomfort during Fraxel. Oral pain medications are prescribed for use just prior to the procedure. A topical numbing cream is also applied. During the treatment, a cold air device (Zimmer 6) is also used to keep the skin cool.
How long is each Fraxel or DOT session?
Depending on the surface area, each session lasts about 30 to 60 minutes.
What are the immediate after-effects?
With Fraxel, it is common to have a little redness that resolves in 1 day. Although you can resume your normal activities right away, we recommend that you exercise sun avoidance and wear sunblock of SPF 30 at all times when outside for at least 3 months. With Smartxide DOT, there is crusting for 2-3 days after the procedure, followed by increased redness that typically lasts 2 weeks. Strict sun avoidance must be practiced during the crusting phase, followed by sun avoidance and sunblock.
