Vitamin B12 Injections – $25
Vitamin B12 is important for growth, cell reproduction, blood formation, and protein and tissue synthesis. Although this vitamin, also known as cyanocobalamin, is present in many foods, some people have trouble absorbing it. In severe cases, poor absorption can lead to pernicious anemia, where a factor needed to absorb vitamin B12 is not produced, causing severe anemia and nerve damage. Patients with pernicious anemia need periodic injections of vitamin B12. Strict vegans may also have difficulty getting enough B12 from diet alone.
Side effects of vitamin B12 injection are minimal – soreness at the injection site, and minor risk of infection or bruising. Patients with Leber’s disease or cobalt allergy should not take this injection.
